Pulau Tioman Proposed Itinerary 2011


Day 1 Sunday 17th April
Jana and Kristin meet school at Tanjong Gemok Ferry Terminal.
11:00 Ferry to Tioman Island
12:30 Arrive at Tioman Island, Genting Village.
          Lunch at Local Restaurant
14:00 Walk to Melina Beach Resort
15:00 Arrive at MBR
          Briefing followed by room allocation
16:00 Snorkel training on house reef
19:00 Dinner
20:00 Night Walk


Day 2 Monday 18th April

08:00 Breakfast
09:00 EFT Presentation: "Turtle Conservation", visit hatchery, nest digging
12:30 Lunch at MBR
15:00 Seashore Survey
17:00 Student Presentations
17:30 ISKL led activity - Survival Skills
19:00 Dinner
20:00 EFT Presentation “Introduction to Rainforests and Mangroves”


Day 3 Tuesday 19th April


08:00 Breakfast
09:00 Start trek along coastal rainforest to Paya Village
10:00 Rest stop for drinks and toilet
10:30 Enter Secondary Rainforest, stop for stream and forest surveys
12:00 Picnic lunch stop
13:30 “Standard Crossing” to Mother Willow and Primary Rainforest survey site
15:30 Stream survey en route to estuarine mangroves
16:30 Rest stop at Paya Beach Resort
19:00 Dinner
20:00 EFT Presentation “Marine Ecosystems”


Day 4 Wednesday 20th April

08:00 Breakfast
09:00 Depart to Tulai
10:00 Snorkel into coastal Mangroves
12:00 Picnic Lunch on beach
13:30 Invertebrate Snorkel 
         Fish ID and snorkel
14:45 Head to Renggis for free snorkel
16:30 Return to MBR
19:00 Dinner
20:00 EFT Presentation “Conservation”


Day 5 Thursday 21st April

08:00 Breakfast and check out
11:00 Walk to Genting (luggage transfer to Genting jetty)
Jana to stay in Tioman
12:00 Ferry to Tanjong Gemok Ferry Terminal
13:30 Coach to KL
         En route stop for lunch at MG Restaurant



Packing List -Pulau Tioman 2011

1. For the Bus trip (pack in a small backpack just for the bus trip)
  • Snack, drink (no canned softdrinks, only screw top drinks, preferably water)
  • A jacket or long sleeve t-shirt (it gets cold on the bus)
  • Hat, book, cards
2. Clothing
  • 5 sets of dry clothes (t-shirts/underwear)
  • 3-4 pairs of shorts ( girls not too short)
  • 2 pairs of socks
  • Pyjamas 
  • 1 pair of running shoes (for hiking)
  • 1 pair of flip-flops or teva sandals
  • Swimsuits - boardshorts - girls once piece or tankini (a tank top swimsuit with bottoms)
  • Swim shirt for snorkeling
  • Hat (for protection from the Sun)
3. Toiletries
  • Toothbrush & paste
  • Soap /washcloth (inside zip-locked bag)
  • Shampoo
  • 2 Thin towels (1 for shower, 1 for beach)
  • Sun-lotion (SPF 30+)
  • Insect Repellent
  • Small pack of tissues
  • talcum power (for removing sand)
4. Miscellaneous
  • A sarong ( this is really handy - can be used as a cover when changing, a sheet at night for camping.
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Water bottle - 1/2 to 1 liter
  • Flashlight (with extra batteries)
  • Extra ziplock bags
  • Disposable camera
  • Money (RM50 in case you might want to purchase a t-shirt)
  • Book, cards
  • Pen and pencil, journal
  • Bandaids (personal first aid kit, etc.)
  • medicine (give any necessary medication to sponsors the day of departure)
